The recycling program for the residents of Manistee Township began in 2001. Glass, plastic and metal were able to be recycled at the Fire Hall on Hill Road until recently. On July 1, 2017, the recycling bins were removed and the program was discontinued as a result of excessive contamination in the bins which created excessive costs to the Township.

Cardboard and paper can be recycled at Manistee Catholic Central on US 31 or Manistee High School on 12th Street. The PCA paper trailers are located behind both schools. The schools receive payment for the cardboard and paper.

Currently, metal and plastic can be taken to the recycling containers at Republic Services located at 3890 Camp Road in Manistee, or Waste Reduction Systems located on Stiles, 3/4 mile North of Fountain Road.
